Event #2: Student Employment Appreciation Day

Elizabeth Anne Tantillo, senior psychology/special education major, signs in at Marist College's Annual Student Employment Appreciation Day on April 21st.  Tantillo has worked at the Marist Institute for Public Opinion since her sophomore year. 

Ben Condon, senior business major, enjoys his complimentary cotton candy.  Condon has worked at the Marist College computer store since his freshman year.

Event #1- Senior Reception for the Women of the Class of 2010

Mrs. Murray, wife of Marist College President Dr. Dennis Murray, socializes with a group at the Senior Reception honoring the women of the class of 2010.  The reception was hosted by Mrs. Murray on April 25th at The Poughkeepsie Tennis Club.

Amy (Coppola) Woods, Executive Director of Alumni Relations and a 1997 Marist alumna, escorts senior girls to President Murray's home.  President Murray invited the women of the class of 2010 into his home for tours during the Senior Reception. The Murray's home was built in 1927, and their family has lived here for 30 years.

  President Dennis J. Murray's library was a stop on his house tour during the Senior Reception.  President Murray has been photographed with prominent, and successful individuals including Lowell Thomas, Diane Sawyer, Pope John Paul II and the Dalai Lama.

Sport News: Yale v. Navy Regatta

The Varsity Yale lightweight crew positions their shell overhead before rolling it over and placing it on the water of Lake Carnegie in Princeton, NJ.  On April 3rd, Yale competed with the United States Naval Academy for the Johnson Cup.

Michael Jonas, a senior in the Yale's Varsity Eight crew, sits in the stroke seat.  He sits closest to the coxswain in the stern of the boat, and has the responsibility of setting the boat's rhythm.

The Yale Varsity Eight boat launches and heads for the starting line.  In the last race of the day, the varsity boat started at 4:20 p.m. Navy is one of Yale's biggest competitors, yet the two teams have a friendly rivalry.

Yale and Navy's Varsity Eight boats keep the race close with a few hundred meters until the finish.  Navy pulled through with a time of 5:39.8, and Yale finished in 5:41.3.

Lightweight crew members look on as the Johnson Cup is presented to Navy's captain, Kevin Mott. The Johnson Cup race is dedicated to Eads Johnson Jr., a Yale graduate who entered into the Navy.

The Nassau County Firefighter's Pipes and Drums opened up the Seventh Annual St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraising event at the St. Agnes Parish Center in Rockville Centre, N.Y. on the day of Rockville Centre's 14th Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade. Established in 2000, the foundation hosts volunteers who shave their heads in order to raise money for kids fighting cancer.  On March 20th, St. Agnes parishioners supported the St. Baldrick's motto, "shaving the way to conquer kids' cancer," by raising $224,104 with the help of 117 shavees.

 

Kevin Kennedy, a Rockville Centre resident and St. Agnes parishioner, raised $23,000 exceededing his goal by $3,000.  The suddenly apprehensive donor is helping the St. Baldrick's Foundation reach their overall goal for 2010 of $20,000,000 worldwide.  To view more of the volunteers from this day, and to learn more about the event visit: http://www.stbaldricks.org/events/mypage/eventid/1577/eventyear/2010.

Wild Art

Ryan Neugebauer and Brian Shannon, long-time friends, head in for an early Spring surf session in Long Beach, NY.  While on their first spring break back from their freshman year of college the weather on Long Island reached the mid-60s, and the waves were two to three feet high.  Long Beach is a small beach community, and according to BestPlaces.net the population as of 2009 is approximately 40,000.

Portrait Assignment

Elmor Martinez, pizza master extraordinaire at A Touch of Italy in Baldwin, New York, proudly holds his crisp flat bread pizza in firm, authoritative display. 

Martinez, who hails from Guatemala, kneads dough in the quaint Italian restaurant on Long Island.  The dough he is kneading will create one of the many pizzas to fill the boxes stacked behind him. 

Though it's a Sunday, Martinez works hard to keep up with the to-go orders. Here he puts the finishing touches on his "special" pizza creation.  

Martinez has worked behind the counter at A Touch of Italy, which is a family owned establishment, since its opening in 1995.

Founded in 1978, The Marist Institute for Public Opinion on the Marist College Campus employs student workers to conduct nation-wide surveys.

Freshman, Stacy Stavella, surveys a respondent about issues facing the nation. Displaying attentiveness and composure, student pollsters can receive promotions for their skill.

Three Marist College student pollers, fully engaged in their surveys, drudge through the hours as they call respondents nationwide from 5:15 p.m. until 11 p.m.

Marist College senior, Ashley Posimato, juggles her school work and her social life like many college students through the aid of multiple technological devices.

 

Assignment #4: Lighting

I prefer the shot of my house mate and her niece and nephew playing Wii, without the flash. I like how you can see their arms moving, which reveals their concentration.  You can also see that they're enjoying themselves.  It's more of an action shot with indirect light.  However, I prefer the individuals shot of my other house mate with the flash, and less light.  The shot without the flash has too many shadows but the shot with the flash reveals her entire face.
